Prior to the release of Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari, composer and songwriter ryo has already made his mark in the world of music. His Vocaloid works, compiled into his first album Supercell, included notable hits like “Black Rock Shooter” and “World is Mine”. However, it would be “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari”, the ending theme to the Bakemonogatari anime, that would see him attain mainstream success.
This release marked his first collaboration with with singer Yanaginagi, a collaboration that would result in numerous albums, culminating in the most excellent full album Today is a Beautiful Day. But that first album was fueled by “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari’s” success. “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari” managed to come in at no. 5 on Japan’s Oricon weekly charts and continued to stay on the charts for 66 weeks. Ultimately, the single managed to sell over 100,000 copies and would be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of Japan.
Even today, the energy from the guitars and piano continue to impress and Yanaginagi’s vocals remain as captivating as ever, making it one of the most memorable anime themes of all time.
