Eminence Symphony Orchestra Performs New Anime and Game Music Concert

On September 14, 2024, the Eminence Symphony Orchestra makes a return to the concert hall with a performance featuring video game and anime music at Sydney’s Town Hall. This concert marks Eminence Symphony Orchestra’s 21st year anniversary and will feature music from storied anime franchises such as the GUNDAM series, relatively recent anime like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and Studio Ghibli classics. And naturally, video game music will be fully represented. There will be musical selections from games like Overwatch and Helldivers.

Although the music is the main draw, the concert will also feature appearances by music guests. Go Shiina, composer for works like Tales of Legendia, the idolm@ster, and, more recently, collaborating with Yuki Kajiura on Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will be there. And so will Dale North, known for soundtracks to Wargroove 2 and River City Girls.

Prior to this upcoming concert, Eminence’s last performance was in 2009, over 15 years ago. So needless to say, it’s been a long time coming. As with previous Eminence concerts, Philip Chu is once again expected to take up the conductor’s baton.

Even though the orchestra hasn’t been performing live, they haven’t been exactly quiet. From then until now, they’ve been mostly focused on working as performers on game and anime soundtracks. Their performer credits include Valkyria Chronicles and Romeo x Juliet’s soundtrack. They’ve also released an album of arrangements from Makoto Shinkai’s anime titled “Promise”, featuring selections from Shinkai’s earlier works like 5 Centimeters Per Second and Voices of a Distant Star.
