The Delicious in Dungeon anime serves up some delectable delights in many senses of the word. The anime caught viewers’ attention with its concept revolving around a dungeoneering party that relies upon the environs for sustenance. Each episode features the party engaging in culinary endeavors as they battle creatures in the dungeons and ultimately use them as ingredients in unconventional delicacies.

As enjoyable as watching the culinary creative process can be, the Delicious in Dungeon soundtrack serves its scenes splendidly. The music, scored by JRPG legend Yasunori Mitsuda in collaboration with Shunsuke Tsuchiya presents us with many a melodic delight. Mitsuda himself probably needs no introduction; longtime JRPG fans know him from his works for video games like Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Xenogears. But don’t write off Shunsuke Tsuchiya either. He’s a strong composer in his own rights with credits for games like Arc Rise Fantasia and Another Eden.

The composers’ experience in video games carries over to Delicious in Dungeon‘s soundtrack which matches the type of music you’d hear in a JRPG. And it does so as a stellar representation of that musical genre. The main theme is exciting, bringing with it a dose of energy to grab your attention right off the bat. JRPG battle music is well-represented in tracks like “Red Dragon” and “Unexpected Attack” with its tension and dread. Hell, they even included “Victory’s Afterglow” which is a fine depiction of the music you’d hear when you win an RPG battle.

But above all, I love how Delicious in Dungeon‘s soundtrack brings the fantasy experience to life. After a lackluster outing in the soundtrack to Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut, both Mitsuda and Tsuchiya return to fine form. I definitely recommend giving this one a look.
