Frieren’s soundtrack derives a lot of its atmosphere from Celtic influences, imbuing it with a tone that meshes well with the anime’s story and setting. Compared to a lot of the grim epic music characteristic of fantasy TV shows or movies, Frieren’s music is more laid-back, even prosaic at times. Throughout the score, you’ll hear rustic melodies carried by violins and woodwinds, all of it wrapping you with a feeling of warmth and wanderlust in certain passages, a feeling of nostalgia in others, and even a riveting, intense Celtic jig in one of the action tracks.
Overall, Evan Call’s compositions for Frieren’s soundtrack is a solid effort. I’ve enjoyed his works for Violet Evergarden and he continues his run of good form here.
