Yuyu and Vocaloid Producer Mafumafu Collaborate on Mysterious Disappearances Opening Theme “Hazard Symbol”
Yuyu, the 16-year-old who won a music competition hosted by music publisher FlyingDog, will be performing the song “Hazard Symbol,” the opening theme to the TV anime Mysterious Disappearances. The anime series is based on Nujima’s manga about a novelist Ogawa Sumireko who teams up with her coworker, a demon boy named Adashino Ren, to solve supernatural mysteries around the city. Mysterious Disappearances will begin airing in April in Japan.
With this release, Yuyu will be working with the popular singer and Vocaloid producer Mafumafu. Prior to this single, Yuyu came onto the music scene after winning the Grand Prize in the Next Artist category of FlyingDog’s Artist Discovery Audition held in 2022. Since winning that competition, she’s released the single Fam/Lullaby, the latter of which served as the ending theme to the second season of The Ancient Magus’ Bride. If there’s a way to describe her singing, it would be that she has a breath-y delivery that lends itself well in invoking a melancholy feeling.
If you’re interested in hearing her sing or learning what vocal qualities she brings to the music, a second promotional video for the anime featuring “Hazard Symbol” has been released.
This release marks Yuyu’s first time performing the OP theme song to a TV anime. Her voice should be a good match with the dark atmosphere and catchiness that Mafumafu is known for.
And, starting from today, Yuyu will also be kicking off the “Yuyu 100 Video Project” on her official TikTok account. She is planning to post a variety of songs, from original compositions to covers of popular tunes, along with behind-the-scenes moments and more. The first post will feature “Hazard Symbol.”
